The Nashville Gospel Chapel Prison Ministry sends Bible correspondence courses to persons incarcerated in institutions across the state of Tennessee who request them. Inmates may also enroll immediate family members who are not incarcerated. Each course comes with a test the student takes and returns after completing each course. The tests are graded and commented on by volunteers. In addition, students are encouraged to ask questions of a spiritual nature that may arise out of their studies or their life circumstances. However, we do not engage in discussions relating to their legal cases.

The courses are provided completely free of charge including return postage and envelopes. The exception to this rule is that return postage and envelopes are not included for inmates in institutions that do not permit inmates to receive postage paid return envelopes, and for students who are not incarcerated.

Students proceed through the Standard Curriculum of studies consisting of sixty courses, which are segmented into seven series. The student may select an additional four courses from a segment of ten elective courses at any time after successfully completing the first series A Prisoner’s Guide to Christ. Other than this diversion, the student proceeds through the Curriculum Series in an orderly fashion.

The courses used in this ministry were developed and are maintained by Emmaus Worldwide They are distributed employed through a network of ministries and Churches throughout the USA and worldwide.

The ministry functions with a twofold focus in mind:

  • To bring the message of the Gospel to incarcerated individuals by means of Bible correspondence courses, with the added benefit of answering spiritual questions the incarcerated persons may have
  • To provide ministry opportunities to believers who may desire to serve up the Gospel message to those shut away by society, and in the process strengthen their own faith by having respond to sometimes challenging questions that may require research
